The U.S. has approved $20 billion in arms sales to Israel, including over 50 F-15 fighter jets and advanced air-to-air missiles, the State Department announced on Tuesday.
Congress has been informed about the deal, which also includes 120 mm tank ammunition, high explosive mortars, and tactical vehicles. This substantial arms package comes amid rising concerns that Israel might become more deeply involved in a broader Middle East conflict.
However, the delivery of these weapons will be a lengthy process, with many contracts set to extend over several years. The earliest deliveries are expected to begin around 2026. The State Department emphasized that this sale is part of a long-term strategy to enhance Israel’s military capabilities, ensuring it maintains a robust defense posture.
The sale will feature the procurement of new F-15 aircraft from Boeing, along with upgrade kits for Israel’s existing fleet of F-15s, including new engines and radars. The initial deliveries of these aircraft are anticipated in 2029.
