Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said he plans to meet with President Trump in Florida on Sunday to discuss possible security guarantees for Ukraine, as well as elements of a broader peace framework. Zelenskyy stated that a proposed 20-point plan is nearing completion and that the talks may also include discussion of an economic agreement, though no final outcome is expected immediately.
Territorial issues are expected to be raised, particularly Russia’s demand that Ukraine cede remaining territory in the Donbas region, a condition Kyiv continues to reject. Russia currently controls most of Luhansk and a significant portion of Donetsk.
Zelenskyy also spoke with Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney, who reaffirmed Canada’s support for Ukraine and emphasised maintaining pressure on Russia during negotiations. Zelenskyy indicated that Ukraine would prefer European involvement in future talks, though this may be difficult in the short term.
The meeting comes amid ongoing diplomatic efforts led by the United States to bring the conflict to an end, despite continued disagreements between Moscow and Kyiv. Meanwhile, fighting continues on the ground, with reported casualties and infrastructure damage in several Ukrainian cities, alongside Ukrainian strikes targeting Russian energy facilities.
