On the opening day of the UN summit for the future on September 22, Sudan’s Foreign Minister, Hussein Awad Ali, criticized what he called “double standards and selectivity” in the implementation of the UN Charter’s principles.
Ali emphasized the necessity of adhering strictly to the Charter, urging that all principles be treated equally without reinterpretation. He underscored that the stability of the international order relies on respecting the Charter, including state sovereignty, territorial integrity, and non-interference in internal affairs.
His comments came amid Sudan’s accusations against the United Arab Emirates for allegedly arming the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) in the ongoing conflict.
Ali also highlighted the urgent need for comprehensive reform of the international financial system to address the challenges faced by developing and post-conflict countries, particularly those affected by poverty, conflict, and climate change.
