Secret Service Protection for Former VP Harris to End, White House Confirms

President Donald Trump has ended Secret Service protection for former Vice President Kamala Harris, according to a senior official from the White House.
Normally, former vice presidents are provided with Secret Service coverage for six months after leaving office. Harris had been granted an extension until January 2026 by then-President Joe Biden before his departure earlier this year.
Harris is set to begin a 15-city book tour in September to promote her memoir, 107 Days, which reflects on her brief presidential campaign. She became the Democratic nominee after Biden exited the race, following a widely criticized debate performance against Trump. Harris ultimately lost the 2024 election to Trump.
The official said Harris was formally notified in a letter dated Thursday that her extended security protection will end on September 1.
In response, Harris’s senior adviser Kirsten Allen expressed appreciation for the Secret Service, praising their professionalism and commitment to safety.
Although she lost the 2024 election, Harris has not ruled out a potential presidential run in 2028. She recently confirmed she will not seek the governorship of California in 2026.
Trump has previously withdrawn federal protection from other individuals, including some critics, such as former national security adviser John Bolton. In March, he also revoked Secret Service protection for Hunter Biden and Ashley Biden, the children of Joe Biden.
