President Mahama Leads First National Prayer and Thanksgiving Service, Reaffirms Ghana’s Commitment to the Gospel
Accra, January 12, 2025 –President John Dramani Mahama led the inaugural National Prayer and Thanksgiving Service on Sunday, January 12, 2025, at the University of Professional Studies, Accra (UPSA), a service he had promised to hold annually. The event brought together citizens from all walks of life to thank God for the blessings upon the nation and for granting Mahama the opportunity to serve as president once again.
During the service, Mahama emphasized Ghana’s divine blessings and its continued alignment with Christian values. “We are a blessed nation,” Mahama said, reflecting on the many ways in which Ghana has prospered. “This National Prayer and Thanksgiving Service is an opportunity for us to come together, to honor God, and to seek His continued guidance and strength as we move forward as a nation.”
Mahama highlighted the significance of the service, noting that it represents Ghana’s ongoing commitment to the word of God. “As a country, we are aligning ourselves with the things of God, and this means the Gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ will continue to grow and have a greater influence in our nation,” Mahama affirmed.
The service also featured prayers led by various members, who prayed for the wisdom, guidance, and protection of Mahama and his leadership. Their prayers sought divine intervention to help the president govern the country with fairness and integrity.
In his address, Mahama spoke about the importance of bold leadership and standing firm in one’s faith. He shared his belief that the nation’s leaders must unapologetically stand for Christ. “We pray for leaders who boldly speak of their faith in Jesus Christ and stand firm for His truth,” Mahama said. “This is the example we need to follow in Ghana as we continue to build a nation rooted in faith.”
The National Prayer and Thanksgiving Service is set to become an annual event, in which Ghanaians will gather each year to give thanks and pray for the nation’s continued progress. Mahama’s initiative further underscores his vision for Ghana as a country deeply connected to its spiritual roots, where the Gospel will continue to shape and influence national policies and values.
