President-Elect Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah Pledges a Hands-On Leadership for Namibia’s Future
In a significant address following her victory in the November 27th Presidential and National Assembly Elections, President-Elect Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah sent a strong message that “business as usual” will not be the norm when she assumes office on March 21 next year. Speaking at the Swapo Party’s first media conference at the Gateway Centre in Windhoek, Nandi-Ndaitwah outlined her vision for the future of Namibia, emphasizing her hands-on approach to governance and her commitment to delivering on the Swapo Party’s election manifesto across all 14 regions of the country.
A New Era of Inclusive Governance
Nandi-Ndaitwah, who was declared the winner of Namibia’s recent presidential elections, made it clear that her administration would prioritize inclusivity and service delivery, ensuring that no region is left behind. Her leadership will focus on bringing about tangible improvements in the lives of Namibians, in alignment with the Swapo Party’s 2025-2030 election manifesto. The president-elect expressed her firm commitment to ensuring that her government remains accountable, with all sectors—ministries, State-Owned Enterprises (SOEs), regional councillors, and local authorities—playing their part in executing the manifesto’s promises.
“We are going to ensure inclusive service delivery,” Nandi-Ndaitwah said, stressing that accountability will be key. “The Swapo-led government, inclusive of all ministries, SOEs, regional councillors, and local authorities, will be held accountable for the implementation of the Swapo Party election manifesto. When people ask after five years, they will not ask ‘Under who?’ They will just see everything as Swapo.”
Celebrating the Resilience of Namibians
The president-elect also took time to praise the resilience and discipline displayed by Namibians during the elections. She expressed gratitude for the overwhelming trust the nation has placed in her leadership, while acknowledging the challenges ahead. Nandi-Ndaitwah urged Swapo Party leaders at every level to redouble their efforts to fulfill the promises made during the election campaign.
“Together, we must make sure that our promises are kept, and our efforts are focused on improving the lives of every Namibian,” she said.
Prioritizing the Youth and Vulnerable Communities
In her address, Nandi-Ndaitwah highlighted the importance of protecting vulnerable communities, particularly Namibia’s youth, who make up the majority of the country’s population. Recognizing the need to address the country’s “grey areas” and challenges, she stressed the importance of building upon the strong foundation laid by the Swapo Party over the years.
“The time is now to address all known grey areas and challenges,” she stated. “We have done a lot, and that is why we can identify grey areas. They are there, but we did a strong foundation.”
A Firm Stance on Corruption
Addressing one of the nation’s long-standing concerns, Nandi-Ndaitwah vowed to take a firm stance against corruption in her administration. She cautioned those in positions of authority that any involvement in corrupt activities would not be tolerated, promising that those who violate the law will face consequences.
“As we move forward, let it be known that there will be no room for corruption in this government. If anyone is found to be in conflict with the law, they will face the music,” she declared, making her commitment to transparency and integrity clear.
A Vision for Socio-Economic Advancement
Looking ahead to her inauguration, Nandi-Ndaitwah reiterated her vision for a Swapo Party that continues to lead Namibia towards greater socio-economic advancement and nation-building. With the Swapo Party holding a dominant position in Namibia’s political landscape, commanding a majority in 121 constituencies, she reaffirmed her commitment to delivering on the party’s promises for the coming term.
“The overwhelming trust and confidence of Namibians in Swapo and my leadership are humbling,” she said. “I am committed to ensuring that the Swapo Party remains a benchmark for nation-building and socio-economic advancement.”
Victory Rally and the Road Ahead
In celebration of the electoral victory, the Swapo Party plans to hold a nationwide victory rally over the weekend. As the country prepares for Nandi-Ndaitwah’s inauguration, her words signal a clear break from the past, promising a government that is both accountable and focused on the long-term welfare of all Namibians.
With her bold vision for the future and a firm commitment to implementing the Swapo Party’s manifesto, Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah is setting the stage for a new chapter in Namibia’s history—one defined by inclusive governance, national unity, and a relentless pursuit of progress.
