Nigeria’s President Bola Tinubu to Meet Xi Jinping in China to Boost Economic and Technological Ties
Nigerian President Bola Tinubu will meet with Chinese leader Xi Jinping during his visit to China next week to discuss enhanced cooperation on key areas including the economy, agriculture, and satellite technology. The visit, which coincides with the China-Africa Cooperation Summit in Beijing, marks a significant step in strengthening Nigeria’s ties with China.
Tinubu’s agenda includes discussions on mutual interests and collaboration in national, regional, and international security. The trip highlights Nigeria’s strategic push to attract Chinese investment and expertise to support its ambitious economic reforms and development plans.
As part of the visit, Tinubu will tour major Chinese companies, including Huawei Technologies and the China Rail and Construction Corporation, to advance Nigeria’s high-speed rail project linking Ibadan to Abuja. Additionally, he will engage with CEOs from various sectors such as ICT, oil and gas, aluminium production, seaport construction, financial services, and satellite technology development.
Nigeria, facing challenges like double-digit inflation, foreign currency shortages, and crude oil theft, aims to leverage this engagement to secure critical investments and drive economic growth. The visit underscores Africa’s increasing role in China’s flagship economic cooperation initiatives.
