The uMkhonto Wesizwe (MK) party has confirmed that former Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) deputy secretary Floyd Shivambu and Mzwanele Manyi have joined their ranks. Both leaders resigned from the EFF recently, with Shivambu stepping down on Wednesday and Manyi resigning the previous week.
MK Party spokesperson Nhlamulo Ndhlela welcomed their addition, stating that their deployment within the party will be based on their respective strengths and expertise. Ndhlela expressed confidence that Shivambu and Manyi will significantly enhance the party’s agenda and contribute to the ongoing efforts of the Progressive Caucus.
“We are excited to integrate these experienced and progressive comrades into our ranks,” Ndhlela said. “Their involvement will bolster our efforts in the fight for the emancipation of the downtrodden and marginalized communities in our country.”
The move is expected to strengthen the MK party’s position as a key player in the South African political landscape. In the 2024 general elections, MK garnered 14.58% of the vote, surpassing the EFF, which secured 9.52%, a decrease from their 10.8% in 2019.
