Guinea’s Transitional President Doumbouya Outlines Roadmap for Constitutional Reform and Elections in 2025
In his New Year’s address on December 31, 2024, Guinea’s transitional president, General Mamadi Doumbouya, reflected on his administration’s achievements over the past year and laid out a comprehensive roadmap for the country’s political future. Doumbouya emphasized the importance of establishing strong, enduring institutions to safeguard Guinea’s democracy, while detailing key steps in the transition process.
Key Elements of the Transition:
A New Constitution: Doumbouya announced plans for a referendum to adopt a new constitution that reflects the aspirations of the Guinean people, ensuring stable governance and democratic values. This constitution will serve as the foundation for the country’s future political structure.
Elections in 2025: The government is committed to holding presidential, legislative, and local elections in 2025. Doumbouya emphasized that these elections will be transparent, inclusive, and conducted with strict adherence to republican values.
