French President Macron Set to Appoint New Prime Minister Amid Political Shifts
French President Emmanuel Macron is poised to appoint a new Prime Minister within the next 48 hours following the ousting of Premier Michel Barnier and his government through a no-confidence vote last week.
Macron held a crucial meeting with political party representatives at the Elysee presidential palace in Paris, where he expressed his intention to name a new premier “in 48 hours. This move comes after Barnier’s government faced a significant blow in parliament, resulting in the loss of the vote of confidence.
Marine Tondelier, the national secretary of the ecologist party, reported that Macron made no compromises during the meeting and that the presidential side remained steadfast in their position, unwilling to shift in their approach. Meanwhile, Olivier Faure, the head of the Socialist Party, called for a new prime minister from the left wing, suggesting a potential shift in the political direction of the government.
Notably, the far-right National Rally (RN) was excluded from the discussions, with Laurent Jacobelli, the deputy head of the RN’s parliamentary group, accusing Macron of isolating the party as the “only opposition.”
The left-wing France Unbowed party also did not participate in the meeting, having declined the initial invitation.
This political reshuffle follows last week’s no-confidence vote, with Macron previously announcing that he would appoint a new premier in the “coming days.” As the situation evolves, attention is on Macron’s decision, which will likely shape the future of French politics.
