Leaders in Egypt and Lebanon are working tirelessly to prevent Israel’s ongoing conflict in Gaza from escalating into a broader regional war, according to statements made at a joint press conference on Tuesday.
Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty emphasized that de-escalation efforts are both “ongoing and intensive.” He reported multiple high-level communications with key international actors, including U.S. Secretary of State, Iranian officials, and Russian and Chinese foreign ministers. Abdelatty stressed the need for the international community to prioritize dialogue and negotiations over military action to avoid further chaos.
Lebanese Foreign Minister Abdullah Bou Habib supported Abdelatty’s remarks, warning that a regional war could become a “serious possibility” if the international community does not take stronger actions to halt Israeli operations in Gaza. Bou Habib urged that any response to the conflict should not escalate into a full-scale war.
During their meeting, the ministers discussed critical regional issues and strategies to reduce tensions, particularly those arising from the Gaza conflict. They expressed a shared commitment to achieving a ceasefire and condemned recent assassinations in the region, including the killing of Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh.
Global leaders are actively exploring all possible measures to prevent the conflict from spreading further. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has indicated that Israel is already engaged in a “multi-front war” involving Iran and its proxies.
