China has expressed reservations over U.S. President Donald Trump’s recent comments regarding the Gaza Strip, highlighting its opposition to the displacement of Palestinians to neighbouring countries. In a statement on Wednesday, China’s Foreign Ministry reaffirmed its position that “Palestinians should govern Palestine” as the core principle for the region’s post-conflict governance.
Foreign Ministry spokesperson Lin Jian emphasized that Beijing stands against any measures that would involve the forced relocation of Gaza’s population, responding to President Trump’s proposal to have the U.S. “take over” Gaza and resettle Palestinians in neighbouring countries. Trump’s remarks, made in a joint press conference with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, included a suggestion that the U.S. could oversee the development of Gaza, creating thousands of jobs and economic opportunities for the region.
While President Trump did not provide specific details on how the proposed resettlement would unfold, the statement from China called for a renewed focus on achieving a ceasefire in Gaza and advancing political dialogue based on the “two-state solution,” which remains a central framework for resolving the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.
As this situation continues to evolve, the international community remains divided on the path forward. President Trump’s proposal, along with the various calls for ceasefires and peace negotiations, signals that the discourse around Gaza remains fluid. The situation is still developing, and it is expected that further details will emerge in the coming days as leaders on both sides of the issue continue to engage diplomatically.
