Bulgaria’s government, led by Prime Minister Rosen Zhelyazkov, has survived its fifth no-confidence vote since taking office in January.
The motion was brought forward by the opposition, citing the government’s perceived failure to implement reforms in the justice and security sectors—areas considered crucial for combating corruption in this EU and NATO member country.
The vote concluded with 101 lawmakers supporting the motion and 133 opposing it, with no abstentions. To succeed, the motion needed the backing of more than half of the 240-seat parliament.
