AstraZeneca has initiated a global recall of its Covid-19 vaccine due to an abundance of updated vaccine options tailored to combat emerging virus variants. This move follows the company’s voluntary withdrawal of its European Union marketing authorization back in March.
On May 7th, the European Medicines Agency formally declared that the AstraZeneca vaccine is no longer authorized for use.
In its official statement, AstraZeneca cited the proliferation of newer vaccines specifically designed to tackle evolving strains of Covid-19 as the rationale behind their decision. This shift in demand has prompted the withdrawal of their vaccine from circulation.
