Thailand’s New Prime Minister Anutin Moves Quickly to Tackle Economy and Border Tensions

Thailand’s newly appointed Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul has wasted no time signaling his administration’s priorities, naming a cabinet focused on economic revival and regional stability, just days after officially taking office.
Anutin, leader of the Bhumjaithai Party, unveiled a team of technocrats and political veterans tasked with jumpstarting growth amid concerns over inflation, sluggish exports, and investor uncertainty. His early moves suggest a sharp pivot toward economic pragmatism, with a focus on infrastructure, tourism, and agricultural development.
Equally pressing is the issue of rising tensions along Thailand’s eastern border with Cambodia, where military standoffs and cross-border smuggling have raised alarm in recent months. Anutin has emphasized diplomacy and cooperation, stating his government will work with neighboring countries to de-escalate tensions and maintain peace in the region.
“This is a government of action,” Anutin said during a brief statement to reporters. “Our people need security, stability, and prosperity and we will deliver.”
The international community and regional partners are watching closely, with expectations high that Anutin will bring a more conciliatory and results oriented approach after months of political uncertainty.
