Estonia is prepared to contribute a battalion-sized unit to a potential peacekeeping mission in Ukraine, Prime Minister Kristen Michal announced during a joint press conference with Finland’s Prime Minister in Tallinn on Friday. He did not specify the exact number of personnel such a deployment would involve.
Meanwhile, efforts continue among Ukraine and its allies to establish strong security guarantees aimed at deterring any future aggression from Russia.
NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte emphasised the importance of lasting support from both Europe and the United States.
Leaders including France’s Emmanuel Macron and UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer have expressed support for deploying troops as part of a future peace framework, with Germany’s Chancellor Friedrich Merz also indicating openness to participating.
