Julius Malema Criticizes Rwandan President Kagame’s Actions in DRC and South Africa

Julius Malema, leader of the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) in South Africa, has voiced strong criticism of Rwandan President Paul Kagame, accusing him of undermining President Cyril Ramaphosa and defying international pressure. Malema’s comments come amid rising tensions surrounding Rwanda’s involvement in the ongoing conflict in eastern Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), where Rwanda is accused of supporting militia groups.
Malema expressed that Kagame’s recent statements and actions were a direct challenge to the authority of South Africa’s leadership, particularly in relation to the DRC situation. The EFF leader stated that Kagame had no right to address President Ramaphosa in such a harsh manner.
Furthermore, Malema drew attention to the sensitive issue of South African National Defence Force (SANDF) soldiers killed in the region, implying that Kagame had admitted responsibility for the deaths. This claim has escalated diplomatic tensions between the two nations, adding further complexity to the ongoing DRC crisis.
The international community has urged Kagame to withdraw his forces from the eastern DRC, where fighting between militias and national armies has left thousands dead and displaced many more. However, Rwanda has maintained its stance, further intensifying the geopolitical strain in the Great Lakes region.
Malema’s comments highlight the growing discontent within South Africa regarding Rwanda’s role in the DRC conflict and the potential for regional instability. His statements also underscore the broader diplomatic and military challenges that African leaders face in navigating these complex international relations.
