Namibia and Ghana Strengthen Bilateral Relations Following Inauguration Talks
In a move to bolster the ties between Namibia and Ghana, President Nangolo Mbumba of Namibia and President John Mahama of Ghana reaffirmed their commitment to deepening bilateral relations following their discussions on the sidelines of President Mahama’s inauguration in Accra.
During the meeting, President Mbumba extended his congratulations to President Mahama on his election victory, calling it a significant milestone for democracy in Ghana. He also praised the election of Vice President Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang as Ghana’s first female vice president, underscoring the country’s ongoing strides in gender equality and political leadership.
Both leaders emphasized the importance of strengthening economic cooperation, particularly in the sectors of agriculture and trade. Mbumba expressed satisfaction with the progress made in commercial agriculture and beef trade between the two nations but noted that there was still ample room for growth in their economic collaboration.
Another area of focus was Namibia’s recent oil and gas discoveries, with President Mbumba highlighting how Ghana’s expertise in energy and mining could play a pivotal role in helping Namibia establish itself as a key player in these industries. President Mahama echoed this sentiment, emphasizing the need for African countries to exercise greater control over their natural resources and to work together to achieve greater economic independence.
The discussions highlighted the shared commitment of both countries to enhance trade, investment, and resource management, ensuring mutual benefit and a stronger economic partnership moving forward. This collaboration marks a new chapter in African solidarity, with both Namibia and Ghana determined to lead by example in fostering intra-African cooperation.
