Israel Continues Aerial Strikes in Syria Following Assad Regime’s Collapse

Israel appears to be intensifying its aerial campaign in Syria, targeting military assets amid the dramatic fall of the Bashar al-Assad regime. The strikes, which have been ongoing since Sunday, are aimed at preventing weaponry from falling into the hands of hostile forces, particularly in the wake of Assad’s ousting.
On Monday, Syrian security sources reported that Israeli planes bombed at least three major Syrian army air bases, marking the largest such wave of attacks on military infrastructure since the regime’s collapse. The air bases targeted include Qamishli in the northeast, Shinshar near Homs, and Aqrba airport southwest of Damascus. These facilities housed dozens of helicopters and jets, which were likely destroyed in the strikes.
The airstrikes follow a series of Israeli attacks on Sunday that focused on advanced missile storage sites, air defense systems, weapons production facilities, and chemical weapons sites. Additionally, Israeli jets took out key military equipment, including planes, helicopters, and tanks associated with the Assad regime’s forces.
The Assad regime’s downfall came after a swift offensive by rebel groups that forced the collapse of the 50-year-old government. Assad’s regime had long been aligned with Iran and was a key part of the so-called “Axis of Resistance” against Israel, making its fall a significant strategic development in the region.
As the situation in Syria continues to evolve, Israel’s ongoing military operations underscore its concerns about regional security and the potential shift in the balance of power in the aftermath of Assad’s removal. The unfolding events could have far-reaching consequences for both Syria and the broader Middle East.
