U.S. President Joe Biden will travel to Germany and Angola from October 10-15, marking his first visit to Africa as president. In Germany, he plans to express gratitude for the country’s support of Ukraine in its defense against Russia.
During his time in Angola from October 13-15, Biden will meet with President Joao Lourenco to discuss strengthening economic partnerships and enhancing peace and security. This trip was originally scheduled for late last year but was postponed due to the outbreak of the Israel-Hamas war. Biden aims to foster closer U.S. ties with democracies in Africa, especially in light of increased Chinese investment in the region.
