Thailand’s New Cabinet Set for Royal Approval This Week, Says PM Paetongtarn Shinawatra

On Monday, Thai Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra announced that the selection of Thailand’s new cabinet is complete and is expected to be submitted for royal endorsement within the week. The Prime Minister confirmed that the new administration is on track to be officially in place by mid-September, as previously indicated by senior officials in her caretaker government.
The forthcoming cabinet is anticipated to retain the current finance and foreign ministers while introducing 11 new ministers and deputy ministers. These changes, according to local media reports citing unnamed sources, aim to refresh the government’s leadership team while maintaining continuity in key areas.
Sorawong Thienthong, Secretary General of Paetongtarn’s ruling Pheu Thai Party, informed Reuters that the new government is expected to command a slightly larger number of parliamentary seats compared to its predecessor. However, he declined to disclose details about the new cabinet members.
This cabinet reshuffle comes less than a month after Srettha Thavisin was removed from office by a court order. The Pheu Thai Party swiftly rallied behind Paetongtarn Shinawatra, who was elected as the country’s youngest prime minister, as well as its second female premier and the fourth member of the influential Shinawatra family to hold the post.
Paetongtarn, 38, is the daughter of former Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra, whose continued influence is seen as a significant factor behind the party’s current leadership. The new government is set to shift away from military-aligned politics, marking a notable change in Thailand’s political landscape.
