In a dramatic escalation of the ongoing conflict, Ukrainian drones have ignited a significant fire at an oil depot in Russia’s Kamensky district of Rostov, according to regional governor Vasily Golubev. The attack has set several tanks ablaze, though thankfully no casualties have been reported. “Firefighters are on site and working to extinguish the flames,” Golubev shared on Telegram.
While Russian air defense units managed to intercept and destroy four drones overnight, the Russian Defense Ministry has yet to acknowledge the incident at the oil depot. The Baza Telegram channel, linked to Russia’s security services, reported that two drones caused three tanks to catch fire.
Social media footage from the area shows large tanks engulfed in flames, and Reuters has confirmed the videos’ location in Rostov’s Kamensky district.
This attack follows a similar incident earlier this month at another fuel storage site in the same district. Additionally, Russian Telegram channels report that tanks are still burning at an oil depot in Rostov’s Proletarsk district following a Ukrainian assault from about ten days ago.
In a separate incident, Voronezh Governor Alexander Gusev reported that debris from a Ukrainian drone caused a fire near explosive materials in his region. The blaze was quickly extinguished, and residents have begun returning to their homes after being evacuated. The Russian Defense Ministry claimed that eight attack drones were destroyed over Voronezh, though specifics were not provided.
Russian officials often underreport the extent of damage from Ukrainian strikes. Both sides maintain they are not targeting civilians in the ongoing conflict that began with Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine. Kyiv asserts that its aerial operations are aimed at crippling key Russian infrastructure essential to the war effort.
