Tunisian President Kais Saied officially filed his candidacy papers on Monday for the upcoming presidential election, scheduled for October 6. Saied’s bid is backed by 242,224 signatures from registered voters, positioning him as a prominent contender in the race.
Currently, Saied is expected to face minimal competition due to the imprisonment of many potential challengers during his first term. Among the candidates, Abir Moussi, a right-wing critic of Saied, has also submitted her papers despite being detained since last year after a protest outside the president’s residence. Her legal team filed her candidacy paperwork on Sunday.
A complete list of candidates will be released by Saturday. To qualify for the ballot, candidates must secure 10,000 signatures as per the requirements set by the Independent High Authority for Elections.
