Trump Unveils ‘Golden Fleet’ Plan to Rebuild U.S. Navy With Advanced Battleships and Submarines

U.S. President Donald Trump has unveiled what he described as a historic plan to rebuild and modernize the United States Navy, introducing an ambitious initiative dubbed the “Golden Fleet.” The proposal includes the development of Trump class battleships, next generation submarines, hypersonic missile platforms, and advanced naval technologies designed to restore American maritime dominance.

According to the announcement, the Golden Fleet would feature AI assisted and autonomous naval systems, as well as advanced weapons such as high energy lasers, railguns, and nuclear- capable missile platforms. Trump said the initiative is intended to strengthen national defence, deter adversaries, and ensure U.S. naval superiority amid rising global competition, particularly in the Indo-Pacific and other strategic waterways.

The plan also emphasizes economic impact, with the administration projecting the creation of thousands of jobs across U.S. shipyards, defense manufacturing facilities, and technology sectors. Trump framed the initiative as both a national security priority and an industrial revival effort, arguing that rebuilding the Navy would reinforce America’s shipbuilding base and technological leadership.

Historically, U.S. naval expansion has played a central role during periods of global tension, most notably during World War II and the Cold War, when large scale shipbuilding programs helped establish U.S. maritime supremacy. In recent decades, however, the Navy has reduced fleet size while focusing on multi role vessels and power projection. The Golden Fleet proposal signals a potential shift back toward large scale naval expansion amid increasing competition from China and Russia, both of which have invested heavily in advanced naval capabilities.

Defense analysts caution that the proposal would require significant congressional funding, long-term industrial capacity, and extensive testing of emerging technologies before full implementation. No detailed timeline or budget figures were immediately released, and it remains unclear how much of the plan could be enacted without bipartisan legislative support.

The Pentagon has not yet issued a formal response to the announcement, but officials have previously acknowledged the need for fleet modernization to meet evolving security challenges. Further details are expected as the administration engages with Congress and defense stakeholders in the coming months.
