Ghana’s Vice President Urges Youth to Build Businesses That Drive Economic Growth

Ghana’s Vice President, Professor Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang, has called on the nation’s youth to embrace entrepreneurship and innovation as key tools to power Ghana’s economy forward.
Speaking at the onboarding and orientation event of the Adwumawura Programme held at the University of Ghana, the Vice President said the government is not only championing youth development in words, but also through bold, strategic action.
“Ghana’s youth are its most valuable resource,” she said. “By empowering you with the tools, knowledge, and platforms to create businesses, we are investing directly into the future of our economy.”
The Adwumawura Programme is a government backed initiative aimed at equipping young Ghanaians with entrepreneurial skills, seed funding, and mentorship to build sustainable businesses. It forms part of a larger national agenda to reduce youth unemployment and boost private sector-led growth.
Vice President Opoku-Agyemang described the initiative as a “bold move forward” in transforming Ghana’s economic landscape through innovation and youth led enterprises. She emphasized that young people must shift their mindset from job seeking to job creation, positioning themselves as solution providers in a rapidly changing world.
The event, which brought together hundreds of young aspiring entrepreneurs from across the country, also featured breakout sessions, training workshops, and networking opportunities with business leaders and mentors.
Analysts have praised the government’s increasing focus on entrepreneurship as a viable path to national development. With a growing youth population and a competitive regional landscape, Ghana is banking on innovation, technology, and private enterprise to stimulate job creation and economic resilience.
In her closing remarks, the Vice President encouraged the youth not to fear failure, but to be bold, creative, and persistent in building businesses that can stand the test of time and contribute meaningfully to Ghana’s economic transformation.
