Poland plans to reopen its border crossings with Belarus at midnight between Wednesday and Thursday, Prime Minister Donald Tusk announced on Tuesday.
The crossings were shut earlier this month in response to military exercises conducted in Belarus under the leadership of Russia. As a member of NATO and the European Union, Poland expressed heightened concern over the “Zapad” (West) drills, particularly after around 21 Russian drones reportedly entered its airspace during the night of September 9–10.

“The conclusion of these exercises reduces – although I can’t say eliminates – various threats, and taking into account the economic interests of Polish carriers and railways, we concluded that this measure has served its purpose,” Tusk told the government.
“If tensions increase, we will not hesitate and we will make appropriate decisions.”
